Let’s paint the character Totoro from the animated movie My Neighbor Totoro by Studio Ghibli. This artwork is inspired by the 80th birthday of the studio’s co-founder, Hayao Miyazaki, earlier this month. With step-by-step instruction, you’ll be able to follow along and complete this painting. No experience necessary — just the desire to have fun!
Materials needed: 1 Canvas panel: Erick will use an 11″ x 14″ size, but any size works. You can substitute cardstock paper.
2 Paintbrushes: one round brush, and one flat brush. But any paintbrushes you have will be OK.
Acrylic paint: Erick will use blue, yellow, white, and black, but you are welcome to use any colors you have. Watercolors are a suitable substitution.
A paint palette: a paper plate or recycled cardboard is fine.
A disposable water cup.
An apron or wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty.
